The VP100 system is *not* in the new boxed game, it was designed for the 1997 UK Grand Tournament and was used at the 1998 US Grand Tournament also. It is used at some 3rd-party tournaments also (I run one of them) and I can say whole-heartedly that it works *much* better than the "normal" system at reducing min-maxing and allowing some unusual units (such as Goblin Squig Hoppers) to be played without risking a huge number of VPs. It does, however, require a bit more in the way of math.
Basically the system works like this:
Each enemy unit (character, regiment, monster, war engine, etc.) killed, fleeing at the end of the game or having fled off the table: VPs = points
Cost of unit. So, a regiment worth 276 points is worth 276 VP, not 2 VP.
Each full table quarted wholly occupied by your own side: 100 VP
Enemy general killed, fleeing or having fled the table: 100 VP in addition to the cost of the general already earned for the unit.
Each unit standard captured and held at the end of the game: 100 VP
Enemy army standard captured and held at the end of the game: 200 VP
There you have it! Try it and see how you like it.
